| no partners | | I had not hiked up to Mount Ord yet this month so I decided to rectify that oversight today.
There was some water running in the wash just past the gate, and instead of taking a chance on getting my feet wet I walked downstream for a bit and found an easy way to get across. This added a bit of distance to the hike.
It was mostly a normal hike up to the summit. I had a windbreaker on at the start of the hike, but took it off after about 1.5 miles. Then the wind picked up a bit so I put it on again after about 4 miles. The wind picked up a bit at the summit, but I resisted the urge to put a heavier jacket on.
There was no snow on the trail so microspikes were not needed. That was good because I left mine in the truck.
Jaws is still alive and well, but there is still a wide passageway for a hiker. About 1/4 mile before getting to Jaws, a portion of a retaining wall had collapsed and there was rubble from the wall over the trail. It was easy enough to hike through the rubble, but a vehicle would not be able to get through.
It was an enjoyable hike today. There are signs of spring on the lower portion of FR 27, but it is still very much winter by the time you get to FR 626. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated There were a few flowers on the lower part of FR 27, but nothing beyond that. I imagine that there will be a decent flower show by mid to late April, and things should be nice on the flower front in May. |
