| no partners | | A couple jaunts on the Highline this week to cut a deadfall and check out some of the work being done between Pine Spring and Webber Creek. Monday Tracy and I walked in on FR646 then west a bit to clear two down trees. Tuesday I walked in on the east end of FR 1365--really not much more than remnants of a road--till I found the trail-to-be line of cut brush, then followed that a ways to where the work was happening. Flagline Trails had a mini-excavator and crew of three making trail.
The amazing part of all this rebuilding is the "improvement factor." What we accepted as trail with all it's rock and steep steps and encroaching brush is giving way to a rolling smooth path. It is so gratifying to see this come from a line of ribbons tied on the brush-some that was literally crawl-on-your-belly thick to this super highway trail. Flagline has another couple weeks to go on their segment and another contractor has a week or so near North Sycamore Creek.
If you haven't hiked the Highline for a few years, it's time is coming. |
