We've done part of this drive before during wildflower season and have been rewarded handsomely, 2023 wildflower season would be no different except for some of the wildflowers and where we saw them. The star for this trip would be Coulter's Globemallow, at least I think it's Coulter's since it seemed more of a spreader.
We took the long way back by first taking East Park Link Road. It wasn't quite as colorful as years past; however, both sides of a lot of that road had thick patches of Lupine. One area had a lot of the Coulter Lupine. A little further north we stopped to photograph the desert flora in the foreground with the snow-capped Catalinas in the background.
We drove on the Pioneer Parkway but couldn't find a place to stop to catch some of the wildflower action we could see. We hung a left on East Cactus Forest Rd to Coolidge and then on to Highway 87 here we stopped at one area that was covered in the Coulter Globemallow. Wow what a find that was! As we got closer to town and were stuck in construction traffic near Hunt Highway I happen to photograph a couple Herons in a field. Only a couple days ago when I was editing my camera photos I realized one of them had a rabbit in its beak . It's not a great photo but I was quite stunned to see that; I had no idea they went for rabbits. |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
