No reservations are required here, but it's $10 per car and $5 per head to hike out of any of the 5TH's in the park.

This trail is almost completely under cover and we had beautiful hiking temperatures in the mid 60's.
Deb turned back after a mile, as the trail started getting steep going downhill and not knowing what the rest would be like. The rest was not that bad except for a short distance dropping into the upper falls.
I turned on the Cliff Trail for a side trip and took in the vast views of the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" ie. Waimea Canyon.

Back on the Canyon Trail, I made my way down to the upper Waipoo Falls. These falls were in the 25' range and pretty, but the bang for the buck to this point was the views into Waimea Canyon.

Talking to someone else, you can reach the lower falls, but you can only see the top of them. Not knowing how far or how worthy the falls would be, I started back up. In hindsight, checking now, these falls are 800' tall, just a short hike of under 1/4 mile. These falls can be seen from a distance from many vantage points around the park. Oh well, next time I guess. |
