| no partners | | Thought I'd do a bit of exploring into an area I had not been to previously.
Starting from The Needle Rock Rec. area, I had no firm plan other than trying to stick close to the Verde to check out the views and take in some fall color. There are some huge cottonwoods along the way.
The going was slow, sometimes having to fight through bamboo/cane-like plants that like to grow close to the river. I also had to go around a few side drainage's that added some elevation and distance.
I'd poke through the foliage every now and then to get a better view of the river. At one point I had my hand on a small branch and I heard some ringing. After careful examination I found a clip-on bell on one of the branches... odd. 50' further up, I ran across a 40' long heavy fishing line tied between two trees at chest level. It was running towards the area where I found the bell. Someone in the past had set up some sort of warning system.
At my turnaround, I took a short break and enjoyed the babbling river under a tall Cottonwood.

Mostly jeep roads and washes on the way back.
Almost perfect weather.
