Year 13 in the NYE hikes Denny and I started on 12/31/2010. The stars aligned and we were able to do the hike actually on NYE.

The cast this year, the largest we've ever had, Denny, Wally, JJ, John, Ray, Linda, my sons Ben & Rob along with his wife Lindsy. Back after an extended absence Dave.

After much deliberation we settled on a hike none of us had done before... A trip to Boulder Bob's Cabin ruins.

We started from the Bushnell Tanks TH to a pleasantly brisk morning. We made our way over to the nice tread of the AZT#21, where we roller coastered our way past the used car lot. The part I was slightly concerned about was the Boulder Bob Trail heading up to the saddle. From photos I saw from past hikes, it looked thick and overgrown. Getting to the trail from the AZT will be better accessed using our track heading down. There is an obvious trail once you cross the 2 washes.

We took a little break at the saddle to allow the group to become a group again.

Heading down towards the cabin area, there are numerous use trails and once again, our track back will be a better one to use.

In the area that I had a waypoint for the cabin, there is quite the buildup of retaining walls and also a small ruin structure, built with rock and mortar, including a window. We originally thought this was the cabin ruin.

On the return trip we checked out the unique arrastra, a stone dam, the actual ruin site as was evidenced by the remains of the bottle wall, and a stand alone fireplace a short distance away.

On the way back we took a detour past the used car lot and headed to a mine. We all headed in a good distance until someone announced the heard running water in the distance, That running water as we got closer, turned out to be a very healthy/thick diamondback, blocking any further progress into the mine.

The Boulder Bob Trail back to a couple of FR's to complete our balloon loop.

Thanks all for a great turnout and an interesting hike. Happy New Year all HAZers
