| no partners | | Friends from another hiking group allowed me to join them for their hike into Hog Canyon. We began from Broadway trail head and walked to the Gold Canyon trail until we reached the wash leading into Hog Canyon. The entry to the canyon was filled with fountain grass making footing difficult where rocks under the fountain grass couldn't be seen. If you enjoy rock hopping, it would be enjoyable for you moving up the canyon. After an hour into the canyon the rocks became frosty and slick, so we lost 4 members of our group that were concerned of the danger of continuing. John, Don and I trekked on to the waterfall area to take in the beauty there. We particularly enjoyed the scramble to the higher levels of the waterfall where the majority of the hieroglyphs were. Despite the frosted rocks, it was a good time and I always appreciate the wonder of that canyon. My preference would be to begin from the west in of Cloudview St. in the Gold Canyon area. I'm not sure how much shorter the hike would have been. |
