Initially I thot "Mission Unaccomplished" but after reviewing my route, it looks like I got most of the Charles Christiansen Trail #100 that I was hoping to find; but mostly by accident. When I started this hike I was rather dejected as I wasn't feeling it. Finally, after a mile, I was feeling a little better about it. I followed the signs from Dreamy Draw TH that said: To Charles Christiansen 100 but it seemed like I never saw a sign that showed I was actually on it. However, it seems hiking to it is the same as I hiking on it :-k .

I noticed immediately how green it was out here; always a great color in the desert. I really wasn't sure I would do Irregular C but decided to at least get to the first saddle. The grade on this trail is nice. I took a break at the saddle and decided to head up to the next saddle. I'm thinking this little break thing might work for me better. Along the way I took a pic of a Many-Headed Cactus and happen to notice the old trail that basically went straight up to the saddle. I've never noticed it before.

As I was heading up to the final saddle I saw some hikers off trail and decided to see where they went. As they came back they said it was steep and really no trail. They were 25 year old Chik Filet corporate trainers from Atlanta enjoying discovering the Arizona desert... no map of course but they did have phones. On my way back down I would run into another older gentelman hiking up, no water.

I headed over to VOAZ thinking I would just hike to the first saddle but I ended up going to the main saddle. Once again, this little trail has a nice grade. I did find the old trail, different from the one I found last time. It was pretty clear trail on the lower section; however, it was posted as a closed area by the trail. I circled at the main saddle and headed back down. I would see one hiker on the way.

I took my usual short cut down to Christiansen #100 and figured I would be able to take that all the way back to the TH. I have been on this part of the trail before, once by myself and another time with someone else but I can't remember who. I got to the intersection with 1A but didn't see any sign indicating 100 so I looked at RS and headed back a ways and then headed north hoping this trail would wrap to the west... well, not exactly. I had spotted a trail flanking a hill as I came over a high part of the trail. It was not a marked trail but I took it and could see foot prints. It takes you up and over the hill and I took it as the trail I was on didn't look like it was going to swing west.

As I got toward the top I saw lots of people action. I decided to go south and ended up on part of the trail I had already taken and eventually I ended up on the Dreamy Draw Nature Trail that I took back to the TH. I saw on RS that apparently I was on the 100 and there was just one blip I missed. Anyway, I like this area so may make this a more regular hike as I can get the elevation I need to practice. I had my beer and then enjoyed the beautiful sunset on my drive home; it was :y: .

WATCH 2:51-5:08PM, 5.41 miles burning 955 calories, 1429-2009 elevation. 136 avg bpm/162 max. Geez, I never reached Zone 5 (168-186bpm), 21% Zone 4 anaerobic (149-167 bpm), 42% Zone 3 aerobic (131-148 bpm), 37% Zone 2 Weight control (112-130 bpm). Temp, a lovely 75.1 with filtered sky and only 19% humidity.

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
