| no partners | | Wanted to see Cousin Connie and since Deborah is here from Montana; I was able to get us all together. First, a hike so I picked up Kelly and we headed southeast. She has not done this area so I was glad to show it to her. It's a nice hike that you can gawk and walk; which makes it a favorite for me. The last time I did this on my own was Jan 2020 [ photoset ] and I didn't take a break; just like today. We met up with Deborah and Duke and headed on our merry way for a clockwise loop.
There was a bit of a breeze; would have been nicer to have it be continuous but I guess you take what you can get. I wasn't sure how I would keep up with those two and Duke; so many times I would fall a little behind, but not far. Trail was pretty busy for a Wednesday morning. We actually passed quite a few people. I always enjoy the view as you come to the top of the first little pass. We enjoyed it for a moment before continuing.
The air was pretty clear. This desert doesn't seem as green as Phoenix Mountaina Preserve where I hiked Sunday. We did run into a couple that were originally from Great Falls, MT so that was fun. Little did Kelly know this was going to be her Montana day, ha!. We continued through the roller coaster, spotted a Thrasher and saw the Crested Saguaro. We encountered a few hikers throughout the rest of the hike as we enjoyed the desert and the views.
The trail makes a big swing to the west when you feel like it should be going east as you could see the VC. I actually checked RS to make sure we hadn't missed a turn. It was kind of Kelly and my M.O. today, to miss turns. Eventually we headed east and did a few more dips and then finished off on the Goldmine Trail. The entire trail is wide and smooth and the hills are little; even for Tibber.
We met up with Cousin Connie and her friend Jean from Montana so Kelly had to deal with four Montanans, but she survived. And Duke really likes his new Auntie now, who made sure he had water and a couple nibbles of food .

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
