I was going to do this on Saturday but decided it was too windy and cold so I did it today. I'm trying to work on my elevation prowess as I continue to struggle. It was a beautiful day for the hike. Lots of people out for a late Sunday afternoon. I was really quite surprised that I encountered hikers and bikers the whole route.

Yep folks, it is so incredibly green out there everywhere and very thick. I enjoyed my hike up Hawk's Nest Trail. No one home at the nest yet. When I got to the saddle I hiked clockwise as I wanted to do Western Vista Peak. The grassy areas that weren't so full of flora were just like a golf course green; thus the title of my hike. This occurred in many areas of the hike. I tried not to take too many pictures of this as I'm sure you're all seeing it out there.

And so it was time to climb up Western Vista Trail. The initial climb is pretty steep for me, or in DixieFlyer terms, "direct". Once it gets closer to the top they throw in a nice switchback to get you up the last of the elevation. I paused a few times to catch my breath. As I was coming down, there were four other people making their way up as well as a bike rider.

Now safely back on Dixie Mountain Loop I could enjoy the surroundings and delightful temps as I rollercoastered to the north side of the loop. But wait, a poppy :y: in bloom along with one on the way! I had already been taking picutres of flora in its green stage. Popcorn flowers were starting to come out as well. And the Barrel Cactus were so fat and plump; they looked like little giants.

Once on the east side I was hiking in the shade from time to time and still encountering hikers. As I rounded the southeast corner I saw that the hot air balloons were up. I think it's always fun to see them so I tried to get some pictures, which was hard as the sun was staring me in the face.

WATCH 2:41-4:46PM, 5.37 miles burning 882 calories. 1627-2124 elevation. 137 avg bpm/161 max. They either changed the parameters for the Zones or I'm in better shape. 20% Zone 4 Anaerobic (149-167 bpm), 44% Zone 3 Aerobic (131-148 bpm), 35% Zone 2 Weight Control (112-130 bpm). Temp, a lovely 64.3 and sunny, 32% humidity.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
