| no partners | | Haven't been out here for a couple years so I was due. I got the last parking spot as there aren't many at the east trailhead. My goal was to do the Circumference Trail and nothing but the Circumference Trail. I usually mix it up depending on how I'm feeling. I realized part way up I forgot to tie an extra shirt around my waist and it was a bit nippy with the breeze but, oh well, I just kept going.
The trail criss crosses its way up to the top and it's a rocky mess so you have to pay attention. I guess it could be worse. Fortunately the grade is reasonable for old Tibber as I made my way up after the previous day of not doing much and being a little under the weather again. I started feeling a little nausea after the first mile but fortunately was able to shake it off by mile three. I would encounter a few hikers during these first couple miles and three downed soldiers, one very large.
The views were crisp and clear all the way around. I could see far and wide, including Weavers Needle. The trail tread would go from nice to rocky with hills off and on throughout the hike. I tried to keep a decent pace, partially to keep warm . I enjoyed the crisp sky and air as I came around the mountain. Soon I was staring at Pyramid Peak and I could see the trail up the side of it. You could also see the water of the canal.
When I got over nearer the north side and headed southeast, I couldn't remember how far up the side of the hill it went, not far. I was in the shade, but at least the breeze wasn't blowing. I crossed over the interior below the ridge. In the valley, it is covered with Stinknet . It's just too bad they can't do some mass eradication in this area with some sort of machine as it's level and there isn't much else there. When I came to the other side, I was relieved I didn't have to go up as the Circumference Trail veered to the north and in the sunshine.
I breathed those sighs of relief but I would have gone up if that's where the trail went. It was nice to just enjoy the rest of the hike knowing all the relatively hard stuff was done. I could see the TSMC plant ahead, it covers a massive amount of acreage. I thought I saw some sort of dome but when I looked at the picture, it was a hot air balloon being blown up. I would get to see a few of them while I was embibing back at the Trailhead. Once I rounded the corner I really picked up my pace and stretched my legs for this last 1/2 mile or so. The trail tread was perfect so I could also gawk.
I didn't initially start my watch as I didn't think it had enough juice to record the hike but it disagreed and fired up "Walking" mode and actually stayed charged until the end: 2:15-4:12PM, 1554-1829 elevation, 142 avg bpm/185 max (high max for me). 56% Zone 5 max, 33% Zone 4 anaerobic, 10% Zone 3 aerobic, burning 626 calories and taking 12,854 steps. Temp 68, sunny and only 9% humidity! |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
