I'm not really sure of the mileage as I didn't follow the route exactly. I actually think you can do a partial loop using the horse trail one way. I decided to be adventurous today and took the horse trail out of and above the wash and along the top side. That provided a different perspective looking down at the wash where you would normally go. I liked being up above it all.
You sure can't get lost. You end up eventually down in the wash just around the corner from what I call the gate (a tall rock formation with the former gate near it). From here you are not very far from the intersection with the actual creek bed. There isn't any water flowing until you turn back west toward the falls. There is a little more water than last Fall.
The falls had 3 different overflow areas. The pond on top was pretty full too. I also got a pic of a beautiful hawk. I didn't stay too long as I wanted to get back for THE game. On the way back, I decided to take the first horse trail (off to the south) out of the wash. It was a little different scenery. It ended up that I was just one ridge over from the original ridge I hiked down on. But being even more daring for me, I decided to follow one set of horse tracks out north out of this wash and of course, that little side wash ended so I had to make my own way until I could get back to the initial ridge... it's not really hard to find your way at all. Only saw people on horses this day.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
