Jason reached out about hitting this one a couple of weeks ago. Sounded like a nice hike. A great way to spend Black Friday out in the wilderness rather than fighting the wild animals at the stores for sure.

We started out later than normal, about 8am and headed towards Superior. We turned off the 60 right by the Arboretum and started up FS 650. After about 8 miles of rocky/rough road, we turned on to FS 342 for the final mile up. This section made the 650 feel like a superhighway. It was rough, rocky and steep. The "trailhead" is just a pull out along 342 once you make it to the saddle.

We hiked up the road for 100 yards or so and then took a really steep "shortcut" down the "trail". We basically followed the drainage as much as possible, with the occasional bypass and bank side detour. Lot's leaves, rock hopping and bushwhacking. It was a beautiful hike. Jason said this was the first time he's done this hike without a drop of running water. I can imagine it's even nicer with water. Lots of narrows and a nice falls towards the top. The fall colors were still going, but the sycamore's have mostly turned and dropped already. LOTS of giant brown/orange leaves on the floor of the creek.

We made it to the ranch and had a lunch stop. The cabin is starting look better than it did. New roof panels, windows, some structural shoring up. It still needs work, but it was looking like it was going to collapse when we did this hike from the other side late last year.

The hike out was about the same, lots of route finding and rock hopping. Once we made it to the top, that hike up to the road was brutal. It's straight up.

The driver back was just as crazy as the drive in. 342 is in bad shape. My poor Titan handled it pretty good though.

A nice day in the wilderness. The weather was perfect for most of the day.
