| partners | | After a one week break to rest my foot, I decided to start back with something easy. Met Bruce at the Tukee carpool lot and we headed out to Quartz Peak. Got started around 0900. Zero breeze, but not too warm. I set a casual pace uphill, and luckily no new foot pain.
Finally got a breeze as we climbed. Could smell smoke occasionally, but couldn’t pinpoint the source due to haze in most directions. Took a nice break at the summit. I ate part of a ribeye. Careful descent, and while I could feel my foot a little more, it wasn’t too bad. Bruce demonstrated how to do a somersalt thru a switchback. Crossed paths with two pairs of hikers, and we chatted with the first pair for a few minutes, one of whom is a HAZ user. Nice to meet you, @cactusneedles (hopefully I got the name right).
I always feel like the last mile or so of this one back to the trailhead drags a little. Luckily, Bruce was with me to help make that mile seem twice as long. Interesting effect. Some high clouds helped filter the sun a bit, which was nice. The drive in from the south (by the landfill) seemed to have more sand than years past, but no real clearance issues. Medium clearance, AWD would be sufficient, and the new Jeep enjoyed being off pavement. Good day, fun hike, and excellent company & conversation. |
