| no partners | | Started from the Dutchman gate and hiked part of FR1356/Tomahawk Mine trail and took the Willow Connector over towards Rough and Ready Canyon and took that north a bit and came back on another trail that's in the next canyon to the west. Saw one diamondback curled up sleeping in Rough and Ready and then saw a 2nd one as I started down the other canyon. That one was moving and was a little jumpy.
I also saw 3 javelina that were on their way up the canyon. the one took off and ran up the other side of the canyon and the other 2 sat behind some trees. they waited for a while and wouldn't run, I think they were waiting for the one that ran away. They were either grunting or thumping their hooves. I sat and waited for them to move on before I did anything to spook them more. I wasn't able to get any pictures, the one took off too fast and the other two were very good at hiding behind the brush.
Stayed cloudy all morning which didn't make for great pics but kept the temperature cool. I was contemplating making it a longer loop but I started late and was kind of tired. Nice to see some wildlife on this hike. |
