| partners | | linda and i took advantage of cooler weather to do another goldfields hike
john and i had done a hike that hit a few landmarks, @adilling hit the same ones more efficiently
linda put those together and added a couple side trips to get double digits
i like starting from milepost 204, seems like you get into good scenery right away
set out around 0530 on a crossover trail, then took one of the side trips to willow springs tank
back south on golden eye mine trail (i think), then headed for helmet rock
there is a good use trail that andy took to the base of the climbing part
going up is fine, a little sketch coming back down
neat summit and great views
i've been up there with john, but was climbing back then - this time was a little scarier with all the loose rock
off trail to golden eye arch
somewhere along the way went through quartz crystal arroyo
next we hit rough n ready canyon and revisited anniversary arch via a different approach than last time
we followed a ridgeline use trail rather than drop back into the canyon
eventually met up with javelina mine trail and went off trail to checkmate arch
there is a cairned use trail from the wash that has good footing and trampled down foxtails - nice
closed our loop and returned
linda's route kept us mostly on trails
three arches and a high point
would recommend this route
nice temps, good breeze, saw no one until about to finish up
starting to figure out trail names and how everything connects
lots more to do, too
thanks linda, we've done three good hikes out there this spring |
