Started 2pm Friday from the peralta trail head. Went up bluff springs trail and deviated on an arroyo early on. That was a good lesson to learn early. Spotted a few water pots while off trail. We found our way back to the intersection with terrapin and continued on Bluff springs to dutchman. Stayed on dutchman until charliebois. This was the make or break for us, and fortunately plenty of water to be had... also a turtle in the water! Very friendly.

Day 2 we continued on dutchman all the way to lost dutchman s.p. The highlight was a large rattlesnake that was clear with us the trail was hers. At the s.p. a very kind ranger welcomed us in. A snickers ice cream plus 4 hr respite under the sunshade during prime heat before round 2. A roadrunner visited us for some water, guessthat is when you knowits hot. 4pm we started the climb up siphon draw. It was slow and difficult. We carried 8 liters each up the climb. The views were fantastic and only got better. Had a cowboy camp on flatiron and a benevolent ringtail fox paid us a visit. Long day. Great day.

Day 3
Started with the sunrise and off to Ridgeline... way finding quite a bit. Sumitted superstition mtn. Then continued on until Dacite (this was a great decision) which j-shaped us back towards weavers needle to the peralta trail at Fremont saddle. Dacite was totally new territory. Really loved it. Finished the loop down peralta to the car.

It was hot and we planned for it. We had 8 liters each at all water fills, plus starting wet. It was no joke out there with the 100 degree heat, however we never felt out of comfort or safety. I sleuthed quite a bit from this community and am grateful for it.

An exploration of the area above Peralta trail on the way up to Peak 3818. There are a few cedar trees up there and the usual mine prospect and old camp sites. A nice cool day to look around.

Parked at Peralta, but headed over to Lost Goldmine trail to start the loop. After turning onto Carney, we made a side trip over to Shaka Cave. Very easy trail to follow, and a cute little cave. From there, it was the steep climb up to West Boulder Saddle. At least the clouds hung around for the uphill climb and there was a nice breeze.

Headed across Dacite Mesa, skipping Robber’s Roost. From there, we headed down to Fremont Saddle. Much easier to follow that route when it’s not buried underneath snow like it was two months ago. From Fremont Saddle, we headed down Cave Trail. Once on Bluff Springs Trail, we took Don’s Trail over to Dutchman, and finished up on Dutchman.

Some light sprinkles for the last mile or so, but great weather today. Great loop, but it felt like more than eight miles. Only saw a handful of people today, but the parking lot was full when we finished, although not nearly as bad as the Wave Cave nightmare I drove past on my way out.

Peralta road is in great condition, lots of dispersed campers along the sides of the road , imagine they are camping in a lot of dust! Met up with @LindaAnn who wanted to see caves but no roost. Parked at Peralta trail head , started off passing by the Don’s entrance with its decorative rock art and through the lot to start Lost Goldmine Trail, passed through the fence near Carney and encountered a small group at the Wave Cave junction, encountered no one else until arriving at Fremont Saddle. Made the side trip over to Shaka Cave, the use path was better than expected and the cave larger than I anticipated, nice views and location for living in, see Linda’s photos. Lost some of our elevation gain to return to the trail up West Boulder Saddle. We conquered this beast as well as possible though I don’t recall much of it in my hypoxic fugue state,I thought I heard things said like early dismissal ,your not dying today , this isn’t Cactus to Clouds, getting closer etc. I think I did my usual stellar job of reducing Linda’s mph average! Enjoyed nice views toward 5057 and West Boulder Canyon after the hard work was done. Had a great back seat driver to get me over to the top of Dacite Mesa where we had a snack break. Love the views and hoodoo fantasy land up here, same weather of off and on winds and sun continued. Once heading toward Fremont Saddle the nice views of Peralta Canyon and Weavers needle entertained us, on arrival there a small number of hikers were present but we quickly went by them. Started going down Cave Trail where we saw no one else until Bluff Saddle Trail . The cairn farm has not been resurrected, we hopped up to Geronimo’s Cave and looked around Linda pointed out a natural formation of a Dali like skull. Further along Cave Trail I showed Linda a rock with a fulcrum that acts like a see saw , she was really impressed :D . Skeptical at first she went along with cutting over to Dutchman Trail via the non existent Don’s Trail. Parking lot was quite full and busy when we returned in the early afternoon. On the drive out started seeing parked cars shortly after passing Lost Goldmine east lot, all the way to Carney, guessing the Wave Cave was busy. Despite threatening clouds no rain until a little spitting towards the end, another nice day to enjoy some exercise outdoors with beautiful views and company.

Second hike we took Bro-in-law and his wife on. I thought this one had a lot to offer to the Minnesotans - not super strenuous, with a lot of interesting sites to see along the way. We had the roost all to ourselves and had our lunch there. They really enjoyed the first half of the hike and were in high spirit, but it became a bit too much later on. So we abandoned the plan of the Cave Trail and took the dreaded Peralta down instead. I hadn't been up there since the fire last year. Sad to see the burns. It was very nice to see water in a lot of drainages from the recent rain.

Reading these recent triplogs on Robbers Roost influenced me to take this route , then I waved to the roost as I went past. Peralta road in good condition all the way to the trailhead , the lot wasn’t full yet but the area became crowded by afternoon. Skirted by Don’s camp and took Lost Goldmine Trail to Carney Springs, encountered a man and his son and their dog ,already past the Dacite Mine turn off , who asked if they were heading to the Wave Cave. Advised them to do an about face and follow me to the fence break at Carney Springs where I advised them to then follow the white arrows. On the way to the ridgeline between frequent pauses encountered two adults and 6 school age children maybe scouts with backpacks who had stayed overnight below 5057 impressed with how easily they moved down the steep loose rocky trail. Eventually arriving at West Boulder Saddle while admiring the old now unreadable sign a young lady came up, waved and turned toward 5057, saw no one else until Fremont Saddle. I continued down to the wash which had a couple of small water puddles and then up the sparsely cairned route and over Dacite Mesa. Elected not to include Robbers Roost as I’ve been several times. Some areas of burn on the way down to Fremont Saddle not too bad as still some pine trees present, now it’s easier to see Peralta Trail . Crossed Fremont Saddle and started down the Cave Trail. Came across 3 discouraged hikers coming back up who couldn’t follow the trail describing an area with a big drop off, they elected not to follow and try again. Soon after a couple also coming up asked if I knew where I was going. David and Tanya introduced themselves and decided to follow me. Visiting from Connecticut they came here to Arizona to meet their children that live in California for the holidays because it was too locked up there. In a it’s a small world moment they mentioned they have a daughter teaching in S. Korea like myself. I forced them to take a break below Geronimo Cave where a young couple recently moved from Chicago came up to us. They were trying to follow an all trails app but complained it kept saying they were on the trail even when they couldn’t see any trail. Now as the acting trail guide the merry band followed me down the chute and slide of the smooth rocks and further , once we arrived safely at the Bluff Spring Trail junction I set them free. Uneventful travel down Bluff Spring Trail but taking my usual route of old Don’s trail over to Dutchman Trail and then back to the parking lot. Looking over Barkley Basin enjoy that expansive view still have been avoiding hiking that burn area, but thankful that I could enjoy this route today and experience all the amazing geology.

My annual post xmas backpack trip was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, so a good hike was in order. I pulled into the lost goldmine TH at 830 to start hiking for the day. I made the way over to Carney and started the uphill portion of the trip. Made it up with numerous small breaks, but considering how long it has been since I got a big hike in it went fairly well. From the WBS I headed east along to make my first trip.to Robbers Roost. Very cool place to see, I spent some time scrambling around. I met a family who had made it up there from Peralta, some pretty impressive kids to rock that hike. I enjoyed a quick snack and then started the traverse over to Peralta trail. As I headed north the burn scar became very apparent. Things were rough all across the Fremont saddle and the first portion of the Cave Trail. Once down a mile or so the damage was much less apparent. The good news is that all things burned seemed to be recovering, hopefully in a couple years all back to normal. I got off trail at the lower end of the Cave Trail, and did not feel like backtracking so I just went bushwhacking. I eventually joined back up with the Peralta trail and powered back to my truck. This hike has been on my radar for a few years and I was happy to knock it out finally.

Interesting Day. I planned on doing the Dacite Super Loop and throw in Robber's Roost as a side Trip. Things don't always go as planned, but at least I had an option to bail.

I was totally off mentally, probably due to my week, but physically felt pretty good. Made a ton of mistakes, brainfarts and just had a general lack of attention, both in the planning and the execution of this hike. Add some laziness, complacency and assumptions to that list and you've got frustration and alot of backtracking and route finding difficulties. I'm definitely rusty on some things too. In spite of it all, I was out there and I didn't kill myself so it was all good. Somehow, even though I left 90% of my Brain at home, I did bring my gut and my common sense, as well as the desire to survive. I got the most crucial decisions right. The rest was just a time sucking monster of a day.

A few lessons learned in a nutshell. Know when to follow the Cairns and when not to. Make sure if you do, you double check your Route, or at least turn on your alerts. And don't assume that just because a Description was written years ago, that Cairns have been added since then. If you see Cairns, check your Route and if it jives, follow the Cairns. Don't rely on your Memory of a Hike from 8 years ago.
Route Scout can confuse you. It may say you're on the Route, but in actuality, you're on top of the Route. Know when to put it down and go back to the Description. It will help you solve things much faster.

Mistake #1 - Planning
Before I got a GPS Route Scout App, I used to "study" the Description heavily and I always printed it and the GPS Route with the topo to take with. It was all I had to hike with. No GPS. Now, I've gotten lazy. Scanned the Description and printed it as well as the Route, and downloaded the Route on RS. Only a few phrases in the Description would be remembered. I knew how to do most of the Route, although it's been since 2012 and my Memory fogged in spots. But the Dacite part would be brand new.

Mistake #2 - RS Alerts
I had turned them all off for the Nature Walk last week and forgot to turn them back on. Since I didn't have a Brain, the alerts would have sure been nice.

Great Decision #1 - I started from Peralta. I had a feeling I'd be pretty beat when I got to Peralta, so I wanted the Car there. Awesome Decision.

Mistake #3 - I thought the Lost Goldmine started at Peralta, but if it does, I missed it. Started down the road, saw a spur trail that I thought might connect and I took it. It ended at the Private Property of Don's Camp and I ended up going back down to the road and to the Official TH to get on it. Only one of several backtracks on this hike.

Mistake #4 - Aided by confusion. I've never been on the Lost Goldmine Trail before, but I thought there was a Junction Sign when it hit Carney. The only sign there now that I saw was a Wave Cave Trail sign. I did know to take that since the turnoff for Wave Cave came off of Carney. So I cruise down what is Carney/Wave Cave Trail. And I kept cruising, but wait, I'm passing where I know I need to be. (Thank God my Memory was good here.) There is another sign for Wave Cave Trail, but somehow, I've missed Carney. But this Trail is amazing. Check RS, yep, I've gone too far on what looks to be a constructed Trail now. Did they build a new Trail all the way to the Cave? I've apparently been out of the loop too long. So, backtracking again. I find the faint trail which is actually blocked by rocks! WTH?

Carney up to West Boulder. Yeah, I remember you. First time I ever did it, I had to descend it by headlamp. Not at all a good time. The second time was easier since I was going up and I could see. I could see this time too, but it still stole my breath frequently. But I made it and headed for the top of West Boulder, the start of both Robbers and Dacite. It's amazing how the Memory works. I last did Robbers in 2012. Johnlp and vanman took me up there. Since I was "following" and trying to keep up, some landmarks and such didn't get noted or remembered. But I did remember some things. I took my snack break in the exact same place. I went straight up from there just like John did. And then I started running into Cairns which was new. But I followed them all the way to the Chiminea rock. Slightly after that, my memory failed me and I didn't follow the Cairns and dropped into the wrong drainage. That would be Mistake #5. When John took me before, we had "dropped" into a Rabbit Hole to access the Roost so I didn't remember going down the Ramp. Turns out that Ramp was two more small ridges over, where the Cairns led. Backtracking again, but I got there and played in the Roost for a bit. Visited the Surfboard and the edges overlooking Peralta before heading back to West Boulder. I followed the Cairns back.

Interestingly, the Cairns crossed the Creek and started towards Dacite Mesa. So I followed them and followed them and followed them and yep, they took me right to the top with a bit of scrambling involved. And they took me across that Mesa to a pretty sweet overlook of Weaver's Needle. And the Cairns continued around the ridge, but I hesitated. I should have been able to see the Fremont Saddle and the Needle was pretty close. So I checked the Route and realized that I had made the same mistake as Joe had, and he mentioned it in his Description. Cairns again take you up but peter out. The Cairns I was following never petered out and I assumed, wrongly, that they had been added after Joe wrote that Description. Mistake #6. The mind tells you to go north around the next set of spires. Don't do that, GO SOUTH. I've lost count on the number of times I've done this hike. To date, I'm sad to admit I've gone to far north on countless occasions. I was way too far north. I had blindly followed the Cairns way too long and didn't double check the Route closely enough. And Joe kept saying SOUTH in his Description. It wasn't sinking in. If you stay On Route, the Cairns will peter out. You basically go straight into the Spires following the main drainage instead of angling to your left up a smaller drainage. You will cross the smaller drainage, but not follow it. So, I backtracked, again. I didn't follow the Cairns down though, I shortcutted it a bit. The confusion begins to set in and I'm trying to get back on track using RS. There were 3 layers of Spires and I had trouble getting to the last edge of them. And then, it looked like I was on the Route. And it was going north, so I went north. Mistake #7. I should have ignored RS at that point. I found two spots that were possibilities to get down, and I tried them, but both times, my gut and common sense kicked in almost immediately. They were both drainages and the possibility of cliffing out was very strong or some serious downclimbing at the very least. They just didn't seem right. They seemed too hard and I think Joe would have mentioned more about it, if either of those had been correct. This thinking was great decisions #2 and #3. Going down either of those could have been very bad. To make things worse, all of this was taking a ton of time.

Great Decision #4. I made a Decision for a turn around time. If I didn't find the Route off, by that time, then it was back to the Roost and off the edge there, or back down Carney. Daylight was a wasting and I knew, by this point, that the Super part of the Loop was going to have to be scrapped. The Cave Trail would have to wait. I just needed to get down to Fremont or turn back. That was going to be all the time I had left. I decided to try one more thing. I wanted to see if I could follow the Ridge itself back towards the Roost. I knew I could get down to a use trail from there. So I went SOUTH. Lo and Behold. Within 5 minutes, I saw the Route down. ](*,) Not only was it a no-brainer, it even had a Cairn. Note to Self. When Route Scout says you're On Route, and you're on the edge of a Cliff, you're most likely "over" the Route, not on it. The Route going north was 30 feet or so directly below me. And once you're off the Cliff, it ties into the use Trail I took from the Roost 8 years ago. I spent well over 3 hours from West Boulder Creek to Dacite to the drop off point. Unbelievable and all because I didn't stay SOUTH, didn't check RS against the Cairns and then when I did check RS it was too late, got confusing, and I needed to just put it away and finally heed the Description more.

One question for you HAZers. The Cairns that take you so far north and seem to take you around the Spires at the north end. Do they tie into Fremont? Or take you down to the Peralta Trail? Anybody know that Route? Just curious.

Once I'm off the Cliff, I get on the use trail and pretty much cruise onto the Fremont Saddle. I'm mentally fried and my legs weren't very happy either. Somehow, by the time I'm done, I've turned what was a 7 1/2 mile Super Loop into a 10 mile half loop. I have just enough time to eat an early dinner and enjoy the Saddle and the Needle View. Haven't been up there in about 4 years. And it was late enough too, there were hardly any people. :) The legs recover, the sun is disappearing behind the spires and it was time to bail down the Peralta Trail. Great Decision #5. Sometimes I'm stubborn enough, it can override my decision making. It would have been stupid to start the Cave Trail at that point and I knew it. Bailing was the best call. I got to the Car, thankfully parked at Peralta, right before the headlamp would have had to come out.

Didn't quite do the Hike I intended and there was frustration with the Route finding. But, a few crucial good decisions allowed it to work out. And some valuable lessons learned. I got way more acquainted with the area. I had a severely "off" day, but it could have been way worse, so even after beating myself up, I'm fine with it. Just another notch in the experience belt. Now that I know Dacite, the Super Loop will happen at some point. I may want to get reacquainted with the Cave Trail too. It's been almost 8 1/2 years on that one. :D

Not going to post the GPS Route, it's an absolute mess. Looks like a 2 year old was scribbling on it. Cleaned it up once to get more realistic stats, but didn't save it. Not cleaning it up again just to spare the embarrassment. That Route can just stay in my File of what not to do.

We parked at Peralta, then walked over to the Lost Goldmine trailhead. West on Lost Goldmine, quickly shedding our jackets within about half a mile.

We decided to try to become insta-famous and went over to Wave Cave for the perfect picture. We were early enough so that only a few people were up there, but we passed a lot of people on our way back down.

From there we headed up to West Boulder Saddle. Slowly. Lots of bugs too. At the saddle, we headed east over to Robber's Roost. We took a snack break at the Roost, then headed north and down to Fremont Saddle.

Mob scene at Fremont, which we quickly got past, then down Cave Trail. It was getting warm on our way down Cave, but there was a nice breeze at times, which was welcomed. Finished off on Bluff Springs and back to the lot before 1:00pm.

A lot of scenery packed into relatively few miles. Nice day.

You can't go wrong with this hike on a nice crystal clear cool day. The climb up to West Boulder Saddle gets the blood circulating and opens up the pores. Always a great feeling when you reach the saddle. Everything to come is easy in comparison.

The route to the Roost through the boulders and hoodoos is unique as is Robbers Roost itself. From there it's an easy geologically impressive trek to Fremont Saddle, the pine tree, and on down one of my favorites the Cave Trail.

Wonderful day. Great company. :)

the plan b hike we did today most closely resembles the dacite super loop with a couple of detours
got going around 0700
up to west boulder saddle - i had forgotten how much fun that is
decided along the way to hit robbers roost and go down the cave trail
i've only been on the section between west boulder saddle and fremont saddle once
really enjoyed seeing it again, especially the visit to robbers roost
great geology, rock formations and views from up there
went out to the pinyon tree for a snack break
surprised to have it to ourselves
returned on cave and bluff springs trails
could see the hordes on peralta :o
since we had parked at carney, we hitched a ride from peralta, not wanting to walk the dusty dirt road
carney was the usual circus full of wave cavers
hadn't been on any of these trails in a few years
nice morning for some exploration and great scenery with ray and john
thanks, guys :)

Kelly invited John and I to get out for a hike. I've only been out for a couple of easy hikes since the new year so I wanted to do something hard. Plan A was 5057, my suggestion, but it was clear early that I didn't have the conditioning to get me there. So we settled on something fun instead.

From the Carney Springs TH we hiked up the WB saddle, then headed west toward Robbers Roost, played around in there a bit, continued down to Fremont Saddle, out to the Weavers Needle overlook, then back on the Cave Trail to the Peralta TH where Kelly managed to find us a ride back to the car. We would have finished the loop on foot, but I was toast and we all knew it.

I played catch up most of the hike, hence the lower break time in my triplog than Kelly's. I knew it would be difficult after a long layoff, but not this difficult. I have some work to do.

Kelly and John, thank you for a fun time, and thank you for your patience. In spite of the pain and struggles, I really did have a great time.

It was steep at times.

Had the all stars with me today for this trek into the Superstitions. Jan, Carey, Maria, and Yolanda. My second time up Carney Springs to Robbers Roost then over to Cave trail for my first (and successful) attempt. We made good time up Carney and was passed by a large group from the Arizona Mountaineering Club doing Ridgeline. Meet one lone hiking at Robbers Roost who came up Peralta. Cautiously made our way down Cave trail thanks to first hand knowledge of my teammates and route info from HAZ. Definitely made good use of the GPS tracks for this one! Fantastic day in the Sups!

This seemed like the first good weekend for a ridgeline hike, so we gave it a go. Started from Crosscut at sunrise after setting up the shuttle vehicle. A young man followed us up Siphon Draw on his way to Flatiron for the first time. We parted ways after the wall and headed up 5024 after a brief meeting with syoung. Once on the ridgeline, we wouldn't see anyone else all day. Walking the ridge was scenic and pretty straight forward. Lots of cairns and an obvious use path. Skies were as clear as we'd seen in recent weeks and views were great. Once in full sun, the cold wind was enjoyable and balanced the warm sunshine perfectly. After 11am, I was in shorts and a tank top all day, in December. We had lunch before the uphill to 5057 and a short break once on the summit. The hoodoos sure are fascinating. We then dropped back to the ridgeline and over to Robber's Roost, where it was cool and nicely shaded. Continued on to Freemont Saddle and took Cave Trail down. After a short road walk, we were back at the vehicle. This was a fun one! All day ridge walking, excellent views, hoodoos, peaks and seclusion in the Western Supes. Great day.

We got started from the Crosscut trailhead as soon as it was light enough to not need headlamps. Nice temps, with a pleasant breeze. Headed up Siphon Draw, overtaking a group of foreign tourists at the first saddle. From there, we were followed the rest of the way up by a guy who had never hiked to the Flatiron before. Above the wall, we said our goodbyes to him, wished him luck on his way back down, then headed over to 5024. We almost immediately ran into Sam, then continued to 5024. After that, it was a nice walk along the Ridgeline. A great breeze countered the warm sunlight, so it felt perfect. We stopped for lunch then made our way over towards 5057. For some reason, I had absolutely no recollection of the chute at the north end of 5057. We paused for a moment, looked around, then went up the chute. With a good boost, I was over the first rock, but I really have no idea how I made it up that last time. Quick break on 5057, then over to West Boulder Saddle. From there, we went to Robbers Roost, then made our way north to Fremont Saddle, then down Cave Trail. Quick hike down Cardiac Hill to Peralta trailhead, then a bit of a road walk to the Lost Goldmine trailhead, where we had parked the second vehicle--choosing that spot in case we had decided to bail out at West Boulder Saddle, the car was pretty much in the middle no matter which way we came down. We finished up just before headlamps would have been necessary. Great day for this hike. Only say a few people at the beginning and end, almost no wildlife either.

Robbers Roost up on Dacite Mesa is always a cool place to visit. I have come up there via Carney Springs and via Peralta Trail. This time, I wanted to avoid the pain and suffering and opted for the easier Peralta route.

I was guiding a fellow hiker who had tried to find Robbers Roost the previous week but was unsuccessful. The hike up the Peralta Trail is always a nice path. We started early so there were not many hikers on the trail. Once we made the turn at the saddle, we did not see anyone else.

I really love the views up on the ridge on the way up. Miners Needle, the Cathedral rocks over off the Dutchman Trail, Geronimo Cave, Barks Canyon, Bluff Springs are all visible up there. I think that would be an awesome location for a sunrise shot, with the hoodoos of Peralta Canyon in the foreground.

We made it up past the little wave rock and down into the “roost”. I always marvel at the way this place looks. The giant boulders, the erosion and the tree…pure Superstition magic here!

On the way down, I ask my hiking partner if she had ever been down the Cave Trail. She said she had not. So, we got to the Fremont saddle and started down the Cave Trail. That’s one of my favorites as well. I am not sure if I like going up that trail or down. It’s steep in sections and tests your legs and lungs going up, but parts of it going down are a little rattling as well. Not to mention hard on my old knees. The devils slide and bathtub area are always the highlight.

We came across a couple fellow hikers near the cairn factory that seemed a bit lost. They followed us for a while then took off on their own. I gave them some guidance about the trail, but it looks like the headed off towards Barks Canyon. We saw them when we got to the last little saddle before heading down to the Bluff Springs Trail. I waved my hiking poles like crazy until the saw me. I hope they realized they were off the trail and started heading towards our location.

The weather was perfect and there were still many wild flowers blooming. A ton on the ridge on the way up to Robbers Roost and still a blanketing of yellow brittlebush all along the Cave Trail. An excellent hike all in all!

Enjoyed the route, the weather I could do without. Bruce covered our day top to bottom.

Putting this route together I was looking to extend Robbers as much as possible. Rain hampered the mega loop so we stuck with a respectable loop. The key to the loop was getting down from Weaver's Overlook to Terrapin. Low and behold I stumbled upon a route by @juliachaos that helped bridge the gap!

Heading north on Weaver's Overlook Route Scout showed the turn coming up soon. My waypoint rattled off turn into the abyss. Surprisingly the turn was cairned and looked well traveled. Tensions eased a touch. With all the recent rain everything was very green. The route is fairly well cairned with a hiccup or two. We wanted to follow it out but needed to get over to Terrapin in the Crosscut vicinity.

After a busy week I stumbled upon the rest of the story... backwards. @Nonot has a great description for Barks Canyon - Complete Route. Soon that led me to @Fritzski on his Barks Upper Canyon Loop. Which in turn he put together from the Grand Poobah Jack Carlson.

Based on the above two mentioned descriptions the route off Weaver's Overlook down to Barks used to be a bloodbath. I faired well in shorts. Abandoning the route directly over to Terrapin there was one nasty section. Bruce led since he wore pants. I followed step by step without issue. The route down was more fun than a concern. Hope to explore the area more someday.

Paint brush, Dichelostemma capitatum, fairy duster among others. Saw a bunch underway that could bust a move in a week and change the horizon.

We did this loop starting from the Lost Goldmine Trailhead. The first car in the lot, shared only with 20+ porta-potties for Sunday's marathon.

We opted for a CCW loop, starting on Bluff Springs #235. This is always a good way to get the heart started first thing in the morning, climbing cardiac hill.

I'd never been on the Cave Trail #235 going this direction. I think I like it better. Lots of interesting rock formations, the Devils Bathtub and then climbing up the Devils Slide. The cairn collection seems to have been slimmed down at "The Cave".

Joe found us a well cairned and used track down the east side into Barks Canyon. We tried to play out the well used path, but it started taking us in the wrong direction. We reversed our direction and bushwhacked over to Bluff Saddle.

Now on Terrapin #234, the off and on rain, was on for a while now. This trail has seen a very recent and welcomed trimming.

On the Dutchman #104, we were looking for some shelter from the rain and wind to have some lunch. No luck.

It finally let up a bit on Peralta #234 enough to have a brief bite.

Also the first time climbing to the Robbers Roost from Peralta, a nice change up. We had the Roost to ourselves.

The sky was starting to get noticeably darker. Starting down my least favorite trail in the Supes, West Boulder Saddle, the deluge hit. Nothing like hiking down a steep, loose, rocky path, while holding an umbrella with glasses that are fogged up.

Another fun day in the Supes....
