Got to the traihead about 30 minutes prior to sunrise and started in 10 minutes later. Trail was easy to follow and the water was low in the creek. You are either crossing the creek or in it all the way to Double Arch Alcove. On the way back I realized I had not seen another hiker all morning and I had been hiking for over two hours. About 30 minutes from the trailhead I came upon four rangers hiking in for trail maintenance. I was informed the trail had been closed this morning, just after I started in, because of hornet activity. I was told to hike in the creek bed back to the trailhead. Sure glad I had an early start.

Hiked in from the lower trailhead with two friends and we found the old trail up through Granite Reef. Had a good time exploring around the rocks and connected up with the new trail and hiked out.

Two friends and I hiked up the King Canyon Trail to the saddle and then on up to Wasson Peak. Great Day with quite a few wildflowers out. On the way down we decided to take the old mining road from the saddle back down into King Canyon Wash. And, we followed the wash back to the trail head.

Went to Bridal Wreath Falls on the Douglas Springs trail and then came out via the Three Tanks Trail to Wildhorse trail and Garwood trail back to TH. Nice sunny day.

NOTE: Since my first trip log on the "Three Tank Trail" the Park Service has re-built the first 0.3 miles east from the Wildhorse trail with several switchbacks and some very nice stone steps.

My hiking buddy Douglas and I did this loop counter clockwise from the Willow Springs Trailhead. We wanted to get the exposed side done early. The west side of the trail has a lot more trees and shade. It was a great morning and we didn't meet any other hikers until we were about 4 miles into the hike. If you are in Las Vegas for a few days this is a great hike in the Red Rock NCA and is only a 45 minute drive from the strip. We left the hotel at 6:00am and were back before noon.

Was in Las Vegas for a few days and just wanted to get out and get in an early morning workout. This trail is fairly strenuous, as it goes through a sandy wash and then climbs up and over a lot of rocks, to a tank. The tank was dry when I got their so I climbed up the rocks past the tank to a great overlook of the Las Vegas valley. It only took me 30 minutes to drive out from the hotel to the Red Rock NCA. The trailhead is only 2.7 miles from the entrance station. Was on the trail by 6:10am. Was back to the hotel by 9:00am.

Wet up the trail this morning for about 1 hour. Got to the mouth of Esperero Canyon. Took a short break and headed back. Last nights rain sure increased the humidity.

This is a great short but steep hike in the Santa Rita Mtns. The trail continues another 0.5 miles past the spring but, gets very steep. It ends at an old spring that was dry on this August Day.

Took the Phoneline this morning for a ways. It was starting to rain and the rocks were getting slippery so I turned around and came down the Phoneline Link trail to the creek. No water in the creek as I crossed to the road and then picked up the Esperero Trail back to the parking lot.

Went up the Phoneline Trail this morning about 3 miles. Took a short break and came back out using the Phoneline Link, Creek, and Sabino Lake Trails. Just rying to stay in the shade as long as possible. Saw one small (12") Tiger Rattlesnake just after I crossed over the creek.

Aka: Potato Patch Loop
When I left the hotel in Laughlin, NV this morning, at 5:00am, it was already 91 degrees. I stopped at the Safeway in Kingman to pick up some power bars and arrived at the trailhead at 6:15am. It was 70 degrees at the trailhead. I had planned to do the 4.4 mile loop hike as I described in my hike description but, the morning was so nice I took the side trip up the Aspen Peak Trail. On the way down from Aspen Peak I found an unsigned trail heading down to the Boy Scout Camp. This shortcut apparently only saved me 0.5 miles. On the Potato patch Trail I came up on two Elk. After a few minutes of staring at each other, they finally walked off. I got back to the trailhead at 9:45 and the temperature was about 80. When I got back to Laughlin at 11:00am it was 106. What a great place to escape the summer heat in Bullhead City.

There are a collection of short trails in the lower section of Sabino Canyon that many people pass by. Everyone likes to hike the Phoneline, Bear Canyon or Blackett's Ridge never visiting the trails along the riparian sections.
Today I hiked around the lower section of Sabino Canyon linking up the various trails in a five mile loop of sorts. Note: the water level in Sabino Creek was very low making the crossings very easy. DO NOT attempt to cross the creek during high flows of water.
From the far east side of the parking lot start on the Bear Canyon Trail and after 160 yards turn left on the Esperero Trail. Follow the Esperero Trail across the tram roads to the junction of the Rattle Snake Trail. Turn right and follow the trail down to the road. Then work your way across the creek to the Creek Trail. Cross the creek to pick up the Sabino Lake Trail. I then followed the Lower Bear Canyon Road around to the Sabino Dam Trail back to the crossing I had made earlier and across to the Bluff Trail. Took the Bluff Trail to the tram road and headed out to hook back up with the Esperero Trail and back to the parking lot.
You can make all sorts of short hikes liking up the various trails along the riparian area. This one happens to be just a little less than five miles.

A little cool for a June day but, great for hiking. The temperature in the upper Catalina's was in the low 50s. We had a few sprinkles as we made our way up the Aspen Draw and through the Meadow. By the time we got to the fire lookout the rain and wind picked up, so we took a short snack break and headed back. By the time we reached the top of Mt Lemmon the sun was back out. Saw a few wildflowers here and there.
Driving down the Mt Lemmon highway we got stopped for over an hour by the Sherrif's Department at Soldier Canyon. A rock climber had fallen in the canyon and the DPS Rescue Helicopter was using the highway for a landing zone.
