Beautiful at the start. Then mostly burned areas and a nice wide meadow. Mostly exposed rather than hiking in the forest. Good hike, but not the best.
We did get hot sun, heavy rain and hail so it was a fun hike

Well I only did the red-ridge and a wee bit of the Canada del oro. This is what happens when you think you’re in better shape than you are! My legs were shot before I got to the bottom and it was a bit of misery getting back to the top! I laughed thinking well 6 months ago I was racing up and down Humphreys peak, but I’m 44 and it’s been 6 months haha!
Good hike- so much water right now. Back and forth across solid fast moving streams. A few deer and some other unseen large things in the brush kept my senses alert.

I’m still adjusting to having a nice mountain 30 mile from home. Perfect to get out of the heat:)
It had rained the night before so the creeks were running and undergrowth wet. Portions were grown over pretty well but the trail was clear still. Good challenge for a short-ish hike.
So glad there are a lot of these side trails to explore.

This is a really good hike- zip through so many ecological zones. Lemmon is a pretty cool mountain.
Much more wild life on the north slopes. A small black bear kept ahead of me for a couple miles. First bear I’ve seen since the Boy Scout days! I think he/she thought I was following it as it kept just moving up the trail I was on. So many deer I quit counting.
Still getting used to doing the easy part (down hill) first the slogging back up. There is a lack of water for most of this hike but the springs at the top of Lemmon were flowing crisp cold waster and I probably over indulged a bit haha.
I’ll do this one again or replace red ridge with oracle ridge if I’m feeling saucy

First good hike since moving to Tucson. This hike has a bit of everything. Cool pines with streams a pools, a forest growing out of rocks, and enough challenge that I was pretty beat at the end.
Marshal gulch was an amazing ending with numerous deer drinking at the pools and so lunch and green.
I could get used to having this mountain so close by:)

I really like this trail- nice tree cover, not rocky or full of roots. Really nice hike with the doggies. Dark clouds had me nervous so I turned around before the top.

This is the first time I’ve seen this trail without hip/knee deep snow! Funny how much easier it is to follow without haha. It’s a welcome change from doing the 151 rout up to Humphrey’s. But there are some forgettable sections too. For some reason this seemed harder than the longer hump, Weatherford, kachina loop. But maybe I’m just getting old:)
Highly recommend this route. Didn’t see a soul on the inner basin side which is always nice compared to the more heavily trafficked main route.
My friends think I’m crazy for waking up at 230an so I can make the drive from phx and hit the trail early, well maybe I am but it’s a great way to spend a day- and a good excuse to get a big ice cream cone on my way back to the valley of the brutal sun!

Finally got around to the basin side from the peak. Was looking forward to this one. My longest one day hike so far and it was a good challenge! So much diversity and beauty. Good amount of snow still and a few sketch sections (yeah I’m afraid of heights haha) on upper Weatherford. I had a hard time enjoying the last few miles but a great hike- I’ll go in reverse next time. I really appreciate this site/app and all the people that post their hikes. It’s inspired me to get out there and hike:)

Took the dogs on a nice hike today- not strenuous just a good stroll though a beautiful area. Went deeper into the canyon than the gps guide and would like to explore that more. Cool caves and awesome rock formations.
Highly recommend for a good day if you have moderately lazy dogs like me!

Ok time to admit I have a problem. My now weekly (or more often) hike to the top is the highlight of my days off. Faster yet- shaved 15 more min off the climb. I’ve been so lucky to pick days with great weather- calm wind and great temps. I’ll be back soon no doubt!

And here we go again! Maybe the start of an obsession but we shall see haha. Love getting up super early and driving up before dawn to spend time on this great mountain. Much faster this time, my legs and lungs are getting used to the challenge. Feels good!
Met a man from Germany on the last section before the summit. He was nice enough to take a pic of me and offered me a sip of his beer! No kidding- pulled a beer out of his pack and sat down to enjoy. Said he does this at the top of every peak he’s climbed. Told me it failed once at mont blanc because it froze. Good stuff.

Took the doggies on this nice chill hike. Not much up and down but really beautiful surroundings. Dogs did great but got pooped towards the end- I think they liked it more when dad was fat and lazy haha!
This is one of my favorite areas. Saw some deer and elk that were not all that fast to run away until my little terrier got bitchy with them:(
Would do this again for sure and spend more time chilling at the lake too. Too many people around for me but once we got away from the lake it was happy solitude once again:)

Wasn’t ready for another inner-basin fail so I took the main trail again. Still lots of snow and my spikes came in very handy. Not the best trail with all the roots- I’d love to look more at the trees than where my feet are but I still really love this hike.

So I’m inpatient I guess! Haha the snow didn’t budge. Had a great time just trudging up the mountain off trail then sliding back down. Made it to the big switchbacks but the angle, snow and my fear of sliding uncontrolled down the incline ended things for today. Although i didn’t make it as far as planned, this was a really fun snow hike.
Saw a few people in the open area of the basin and they didn’t seem to believe me about the amount of snow on the ‘trail’ hope they enjoyed as much as I did! Snow was packed pretty good but plenty of post-holing still. I’m sure I’ll miss the snow once it’s gone but for now I’d like to take a trip to the top via inner basin. Next time:)

First time to the top of AZ. Needed spikes and did a lot of sliding on my butt- super fun like a kid again! Started with no one around and met up with a guy from Ohio near the tree line- we went to the top and back down together. Nice to have a companion as I have always hiked alone.
This was an pumpkin kicker for me, so I’ll have to do it again.

Lots of snow! A good amount around the first couple pump water stations but hip deep once you take the big left turn into the woods. First time in the basin area and not ready for so much snow. Got to Doyle spring and figured I’d had enough. Maybe next year I’ll snowshoe my way further but for now this will do:)
Love the beauty and solitude of this hike today. I’m kinda new to this and felt the conditions were a bit out of my wheelhouse for now. No need to get lost or stuck alone out there haha.
I’ll try again in a bit- hope the snow melts off some

First time with the dogs outside phx. They awaited themselves nicely- some really rocky difficult patches for them and they did great. Beautiful trip up the rim. I live the colors and formations. Excellent views and a good challenge going up. Pretty walk through the pines at the top- flat and relaxing. Didn’t see another person.
