FS77 Or Peralta Road
For anyone that wants to hike any of the trails going off of the Peralta TH the road FS 77 will be closed due to the Lost Dutchman Marathon from 4ish in the morning till I would guess 8 am or later on Feb 14 Sunday ....Not sure of the exact time they will reopen it to traffic.... They will also be going twice onto Hwy 60 taking up one lane of the two west bound ones. Then there is the Rennisance Festival is going on out Hwy 60 too.... Just be aware....

Re: FS77 Or Peralta Road
They will be running right by my place. Lots of traffic due to the Rennisance with the usual lots of accidents. Would like to see them encourage a Park and Ride for the Rennisance. Don't think there is a gold tournament this year whic added to the traffic. It was bad yesterday. I have a club bike ride today in Tempe but will pass due to the traffic. Dschur you running ?

Re: FS77 Or Peralta Road
Thanks Dee for letting us know as Kat and I had planned on doing Lower Barks. We couldn't find any info online other than the LD Marathon site.
Because of the timing of your posting Kat came up with her version of the LD Marathon
so we hiked to the La Barge Box via Boulder Canyon Trail. Kat won our Marathon that's for sure
and she deserves kudos for getting me to the finish line. :thanx: That's a tough one, beautiful with a big pay off, but tough.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Re: FS77 Or Peralta Road
I did the 8K trail run/walk (I don't run my husband does that) I just power walked it at 1 hr 10 minutes 3 minutes faster than last time. My husband did the 26.2 mile from the Peralta trail head to Pioneer Park.... Nice day to spend with 5,000 or so of your closest friends....

Peralta Road - 7/14/16
The road out there is probably not passable by car. Each of the creek crossings have a very thick layer of sand. My little Mazda 3 made it about a half mile from the trailhead and almost got stuck going through one. I decided to turn around and head to Picketpost.

@syoung
Kind of surprised to hear this. Peralta Rd. is typically pretty well maintained. That said, I did get a flat out there on my Superstition Ridgeline hike last year: http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=486009 ...

Re: FS77 Or Peralta Road
Yea, I was shocked too. Never had an issue heading out there the times I have been. The sand/silt drifts felt like driving in the snow and slush during upstate NY winters.ddgrunning wrote:@syoung

Has it changed for the worse? I've never had a problem in many rental car traverses, although I agree that the wash crossings are sometimes less than wonderful.

I have never had a problem with Peralta Road however I only drove company cars of course.

Re: FS77 Or Peralta Road
Peralta is a little rough. Just got out there yesterday. Sandy wash crossings for sure. I had some fun in my Tahoe. 2-wheel drive handled it just fine. Rear end slid around a bit. I think its passable in just about any stock vehicle. Kind of depends on the driver. Poke along into the sand and you might get stuck. Gun it and enjoy the ride. Not recommended for your new Mercedes or Beamer.
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

Re: FS77 Or Peralta Road
No sandy washes or problem areas noted until after Carney. It's the last mile that is the roughest.

Peralta Road
FYI if you haven't been out to Peralta Road lately, they have started digging trenches on the sides of the road to prevent squatters from camping on the sides of the road and to help with the side-by-sides driving wherever. Eventually, they are going to put up a fence on both sides on the State Trust Land portion. Also, work to pave the road to Peralta TH will start in 2025, although I think it is a huge waste of money, and living off Peralta the increase in traffic is going to be ridiculous I can assume.
Hiking is just walking where it’s okay to pee.
