1) Begun in 1875 in the wake of the Franco-Prussian War and the chaos of the Paris Commune, Sacré-Cœur is a symbol of the former struggle between the conservative Catholic old guard and the secular, republican radicals.

2) Carrousel de Saint-Pierre at the Square Louise Michel is the late 19th-century Carrousel de Montmarte. This timeless children's delight has been operating since 1879.

3) a fountain by Paul Gasq, devoted to the ocean gods.
