The Richelieu Site: a palace in the heart of Paris.
After more than a decade of works, the reopening of the Bibliothèque nationale de France’s historical site in September 2022 also marks the tricentennial of its first establishment in Cardinal Mazarin’s former palace in 1721-1722. Known as the Royal Library at the time, it has continued to expand thanks to the continued growth of its collections. For the first time in its history, the BnF has had the opportunity to renovate and entirely redesign a building that has matured over centuries.
