I made it to the pools in about two hours, which is laughable to most, but for me is pretty good timing. The pools are a pleasant little oasis in the desert. I was all alone there and found the rocks overlooking the upper pool a nice place to break out my Bible and read.
I was a little disappointed with the lack of wildlife in the area, but I'm not sure what I was expecting. It was too cold for reptiles and in the middle of the day it was unlikely I was going to see anything bigger than a rock squirrel. However, I took the birding trail on the way back and spotted another pair of Cardinals just off Sutherland Wash (my second pair for the day).
An enjoyable introduction to the Catalinas and best of all it wasn't too crowded on a Monday. |
