Couldn't let a beautiful day like today pass me up. Started about 11:30. This time being my second time here (and having the whole day free) I went and explored the southeast part of the preserve. Did H :next: DT :next: V :next: GO :next: UP :next: GO :next: C :next: V :next: DT :next: H. While the whole preserve is a jewel, I like this area a little better than the Dixie area. A little quieter and more scenic.

The more you know... Hiking in the preserve, have you noticed the straight line of gravel(?) that cuts diagonally through the desert for about a mile? It's east of Dixie summit and north-northeast of Union Peak. This is an old aircraft crash test track from the early 1960's. The testing done out here is a big reason why commercial aviation today is so safe. More on the work done in this area:
