I hiked in Second Water trail this time. I was temped by an alcove in Boulder Canyon but passed on it to stay focused. The hike up Deering Canyon was brushy as usual but I was in the shade so it was still cool. I got to the big boulder just after 8a and with no one to talk me out of it I crawled through. I don't know what the warning sign is there for. It was way too easy and there is nothing and I mean nothing but brush and large boulders on the other side. If I go back I'll drop down from the top and check out the alcove that's located higher up. I did stop and watch the turkey vultures circling me for a while. Is that a bad sign? So, it's 8:40a and I have time so I walked the shelf over to Squaw Canyon. I didn't find anything new but I did see a piece of skull bone and from it I could tell it was a Bighorn ewe. I hiked down the Z trail and back to Cavalry trail. On the way out, I decided to hike up to the alcove by Black Top Mesa. It was ok but not really worth the scramble. I hiked back on the Dutchman trail and didn't see another hiker on the trails all day. There were 3 other cars at the TH when I got back but no bodies. |
