| no partners | | This was a whirlwind of a trip. Got off work at 10:00pm on Tuesday. Went home and took a cat nap. Up at 2:15 and out the door at 2:45am. I drove straight to the Gardner Canyon Trailhead which is at the end of section 4. There I would meet up with Gerry the Owner of the Stage Stop Inn in Patagonia. We both arrived a tad early and were off towards Parker Canyon Lake in his car. He dropped me off at the beginning of passage 2 at 6:30am and I was off. From here I would complete both 2 and 3 then stay the night in Patagonia at the Stage Stop. Then get up and hike section 4 to Gardner Canyon where my Jeep would be waiting for me.
The hike itself was really enjoyable but did get a little toasty in the early afternoon. Along the way I must have gone through 20 gates. Possibly the most of any section so far. It is interesting how many gates there are on the Arizona Trail. They all seem to have a different latching mechanism as well.
I arrived in Patagonia at 3:38pm and Gerry had an envelope sitting on the front counter with my name on it and a key inside. I showered up and headed down for an amazing burger at the "Home Plate" restaurant.
The stay at the hotel was really nice and Gerry was super accommodating. I would highly recommend this place if you are passing through. Also on the shuttle set up he charged me 20 for gas (100 miles driven) and 20 for his time. I would say that was money well spent! If you are interested in doing something similar give him a call. Great guy and nice place for sure! |
