Amy had planned this trip some time ago. When we went last year the leaves were amazing and I was really looking forward to getting back. It was also terrible weather last year and from the top we couldn't see 10 feet in front of us. This year it looks like we missed the peak by a few days. The leaves had lost their brilliance but were still nice to look at. In several spots the leaves covered the ground making for a colorful carpet upon which to hike. Kathy (Amy's friend) and Tugger were along this trip as well. It was brisk out but the skies were clear and you could see for miles this time.

Once up top we scrambled up to the summit and signed in. We saw CindyL and Southpaws entry from a few days prior. The views from the peak are incredible.

On the way down I decided to go check out the Bomber crash site. It was a steep trip down but well worth the effort. It's cool that there is a memorial plaque on the wing for the men that perished that day. Some of the parts looked like they were produced yesterday. Others were mangled beyond recognition. If you don't mind a steep climb I would recommend checking it out if you are in the area.

After this I caught up to the girls and we made our way back down the trail. It was chilly by the time we finished so I grabbed some hot Mexican food in Wilcox. The girls went to Tucson for Pizza.

Next year hopefully we will hit it at peak and have clear skies as well! :)
