After driving down and around with an early start from Tucson, cindyl and took a bit of time to set up camp along Ash Creek Road before driving on out to the trailhead to get started. With fall colors among the creek very close to their peak, we took our time along the creek with lots of photos taken along the way. Once we reached Upper Ash Spring, we were ready after a short break there to put away the cameras and make our way up the hill. As we climbed out of the canyon, the small stand of large Aspens at the spring stood out with most of them at their yellowest peak. We took our time all the way up, and managed to find and follow a fairly decent little spur trail up to the summit. After signing in to the summit register, we set down at the summit to take in the views while cindyl enjoyed a refreshing adult beverage and I performed minor surgery on the torn fingernail she somehow broke attempting to open it.

We made our way back down more quickly, with a stop to view the airplane wreckage, and then slowed a bit once we got down in the canyon. In the shadows of late afternoon, the colors of the turning leaves were more vibrant than they had been in the morning sun. About 2 miles away from the trailhead, we met a small group that had backpacked in for an overnight led by cindyl's friend Jim, so we paused for a chat with them before we made our way back to the truck. After a short drive out to our camp spot we finished setting up camp, rustled up a quick dinner, then settled in for a wonderful evening by the campfire.
