Wow, I'm number 1 for this month's milage and number 2 for elevation! Don't blink it won't last long.

It was past time for my 3rd annual trip from First Water TH to Canyon Lake and back to First Water TH. So even with the temperatures rising I said what-the-heck today is a good day. Well on the way back when it was noon and I was starting up the hill above Second Water Canyon on the Second Water Trail I knew just what-the-heck. It was H-O-T!!! I had done a side trail up by the lake, and regretted it when I was still a mile out and would have already been back. Until Second Water Canyon I still felt great.

Lots of wildflowers. A couple I met on the trail helped me with some names, there were the usual plus a couple dozen of the deepest orange Mariposa lilies, a few Coulter's Hibiscus, and several others without a known name. I bet there were 30 to 40 varieties of wildflowers out. The Globe Mallow were so large they were across the trail in many places. I'll put some pictures in later. Lots of lizards including some huge ones. The soft sand on the trail in Garden Valley showed several sets of tracks made by snakes crossing. Luckily they were already gone. Saw many rabbits when I was on the way in.

Ran into a few groups of some of the nicest people. One from Wisconsin that had spent most of the week hiking. Also ran into some people that make me wonder, seeing as they left First Water at 1PM. Without hats and what looked like very little water. I tried to get them to turn around...
