| no partners | | Spent the night last night in Madera Canyon. I was camping JJ style at the Santa Rita Lodge Cabins. Unit number 7 is where I laid my head to rest after watching Russia kill it in the figure skating event. Then this morning I was up and on may way up Mount Wrightson. Not something I would normally do this time of year but it has been unusually warm the last week or two. It was 46 degrees when I started at around 9am and over 75 when I ended a little after 1pm.
On my way down I noticed the section between the summit and Josephine Saddle on the Super Trail is getting pretty brushy. Then all of a sudden I came around a corner and ran into an army of trail workers. They were with the South West Youth Corp and were whacking away at it. They were doing a great job so I thanked them and enjoyed the rest of the section that they had cleared. Jumping back on the Old Baldy Trail at the Saddle I saw their camp set up. The Forest Service had just been there with some pack mules to supply them with a bunch of water. Very cool indeed.
I think I could live in Madera Canyon and hike Wrightson every day that it is sunny and never get tired of it. Well maybe not but it sure is a great place and I ALWAYS really enjoy it. Nick says Rincon Peak is even better. Think I am just going to have to find out for myself this weekend. |
