| no partners | | I wanted to find one of the "poster child" petroglyphs in the AFNM area. I would have had no idea where it was but Alston posted a picture a while ago. At the time I was surprised (OK irritated ) to find out that it was at a ruin site I had already been to...I had missed it!
The location is not too far from the Richinbar Mine/Ruin area on Black Mesa. When I got there I walked by the glyph I was looking for at least 3 times before I noticed it - a bit smaller than expected but it's pretty intricate and unique.
To make it a longer day I decided to head down to the river which I could hear running from the mesa. It was steep (particularly near the bottom) and slow-going, but it was nice to cool off in the water when I got there. I saw some scattered pottery pieces on the way down but no more ruins or petroglyphs.
I headed downstream to near the intersection with Perry Tank Canyon and then climbed out toward the Richinbar area. Nothing very interesting along the way till I passed the petroglyph area near Richinbar. I took the opportunity to take a picture of the petroglyphs that AFNM uses on posters I've seen. Their poster is better than my picture. |
