I needed to get out for a hike and with the temps warming up, I wanted to get an early start so I opted for the close-to-home Silly Mountain. The last time out there I saw a trail that continued on towards the East that I hadn't been on so today I wanted to see where it went.
From the Trailhead, I went up to the summit and paused while taking in the scenery. From this high point, I could see that there were many Palo Verde trees in full bloom in Siphon Draw Wash so I put that on my list for the day also. The trail that I had seen earlier doesn't get much use so there were long stretches of loose rocks but was easy to follow so I kept on going. Eventually the trail passed close to a street in Gold Canyon and continued on to the West, a local sign identified it as Superstition Foothills Trail.
Soon I found familiar signs indicating that I was back on the Silly Mountain trail network and I continued on back to the Trailhead. The normally full parking lot was fairly deserted at 7:00 as I was finishing up.... must be the warm weather and snakes that are keeping the numbers down.
I drove from the Silly Mtn parking lot to another parking area along Mountain View Road that had a gate entrance to the low land adjacent to the wash. I hiked the wash for a distance and found lots of Palo Verde in their springtime cloak of bright yellow flowers.

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip. |
