| no partners | | I have been out to the Peralta Trailhead a couple of times this summer and the Mesquite tree that provides us with such a nice shady resting place, had a couple of broken branches hanging down over the Wilderness sign. Since I'm a part time Volunteer with the US Forest Service, I couldn't wait for them to assign someone to get out there and clean up the mess, so I took it upon myself to restore the scenic Trailhead back to something similar to what it once was.
It only took an hour to trim off the branches, cut them into disposable lengths and pitch them over the edge down by the creek where they will decompose naturally. After cleaning up the Trailhead, I took a short break to enjoy the silence before heading back. As I rounded a corner on the rough gravel road, I came face to face with a Longhorn Steer standing alongside the road. I stopped my truck a safe distance from him to let him get over any anxiety then approached him slowly. Once beside the beautiful animal, I had a short conversation with him to calm his nerves, took a couple of photos and then we both continued on our way.
Gotta love this country.
