From the lot, you take Turtlehead Peak trail a short distance (about 500') then turn onto Calico Tanks at the sign. The trail follows a wash up to the tanks near the top. Very pretty trail, lots of climbing over red sandstone in the wash. At times the "trail" sort of disappears, but all you have to do is keep following the wash--impossible to get lost. I can imagine that on weekends this trail is packed, it was plenty busy on a weekday. There was a little bit of water in places along the wash, and the tank was very full of water. To get past it to get around to the top for the view of Vegas, I had to climb on the sandstone to the right of the tank. Not difficult, but I noticed some people turning around. Just above the tank, there's a lot of places to sit and relax and enjoy the views. |
