| no partners | | Wow, mosquitoes everywhere. That was probably my only complaint about today's hike. I got to the trailhead about 7am, and headed up Bluff Springs trail; cool, cloudy, and a little breezy. A good variety of wildflowers, but since I can identify exactly ONE type of flower, I have no idea what they all were. Lots of bees, then even more mosquitoes for pretty much the entire way. Headed north on Dutchman, and enjoyed all the water alongside the trail, the vegetation was green and lush--nice to see. Near Charlebois, I followed the directions Larry gave me and was able to immediately find the master map, then I headed over to Charlebois and chatted with a nice Canadian couple for a few minutes. Continued along Dutchman, eating a sandwich while I walked. The sun was out by this point, but still not too warm. Headed south on Peralta, luckily it had clouded over again, so heading up to the saddle was not too bad. At the saddle, I debated between heading back down on Cave trail, or sticking with Peralta. I like the Cave trail a lot more, but I didn't have a whole lot of water left, and I was cutting it close on time, so Peralta it was. Just below the saddle, I heard some noise off to my right, and saw a bighorn sheep jumping around on the rocks. Got some pictures of him, so that sort of made up for having to take Peralta. On the way down, I ran into 'Cycle87'--nice to meet you! and made pretty good time back to the car. |
