Randy (rwstorm) and I had been making plans to spend a couple of easy days in the Ajo area car camping and touring. The weather was getting unsettled and rain chances increased to 60% for Sunday so we decided to put this off for another time.

So with nothing better planned, and following a brief touch of rain overnight, I opted for a quick outing along the Peralta Trail to Fremont Saddle. The clouds were nice, broken with enough openings to allow the sun to peek through, and provided that touch of drama to the canyon. I got a late start (0815) but minimal activity in the parking lot so there weren't too many hikers on the trails yet. As I headed up, the sun was busting through the clouds and the humidity was rising making for some sweating and water consumption. The Wolf Berries (Goji Berry) were plentiful along the sides of the trail and most at at the perfect stage of ripeness, so I picked the berries as I continued on up the trail enjoying the tart flavor.

Once at the Saddle, a cooling breeze came out of the North and made everything all better, as the Turkey Vultures soared high above me on invisible currents. The dark clouds provided some really cool shots of Weavers Needle and the Peralta Canyon from the Saddle and around the Hoodoo's.

As I headed down, back to the trailhead, I ran into lots of groups heading up trail.... glad, once again, that I had the whole area all to myself for that brief period of time.
