| no partners | | When the afternoon temps are going to be in the triple digits and the mornings are in the 70's, well, it just begs to get out. I hadn't been to the Garden in a while and wanted to see what it looked like after the initial hot spell and no rains to speak of, and yes, it's dry out there.
After leaving the First Water TH, I realized that I was following fresh bike tracks, so I wanted to see where they went. I followed em all the way through the Garden and down the back trail where the trail splits to go to Hackberry Spring. The biker went towards the Spring so I took the shortcut hoping to meet the rider and clue him in about the restrictions of biking in the Wilderness. I picked up the tracks again about half way through the basin heading towards the corral but lost them at the slickrock along First Water Creek. I didn't see any more tracks until I got back to the TH.
Only a single vehicle in the parking lot when I left and, according to the log he left a half hour ahead of me doing the Black Mesa loop, so I didn't see or hear anyone on the trails the entire time  Kinda liking this summer hiking and the solitude that goes along with it. |
