I could not make up my mind what to do with the cooler weather but with the goal to finally get my dog out of the house I figured I would finally give Deer Creek a try since I have always been curious of this trail. Ever since I got my camera I have been neglecting Mama Payton with her weekly exploring excursion so the minute we hit the trail she was full steam ahead sprinting, frolicking and enjoying the fresh morning dew in the Mazzies. Speaking of morning dew and the recent dusting of a fresh rain from the previous nights, literally every plant I came in contact with was getting me soaked! ](*,) I was trying my best to be skinny along the trail but by the time I reached the Cowan gravesite I was due for a dry shirt out of my bag and almost wish I had a second pair of pants! Nonetheless it was a beautiful morning, the was one of those times I thought my RS app was chirping but it was the sheer abundance of what I assume to be very cheerful birds around me. Just before the Mazatzal Wilderness boundary I of course found myself a nice little waterfall to photograph and watch Miss Payton take a swim. The sky finally broke from the dark overcast and unloaded sweet sunshine upon me which meant it was sweating time for me. Only proceeded maybe another mile or so from there and I honestly felt satisfied for what I needed to see of the lower breaches of DC since I wasn't planning on doing the sweet Deer Creek/ South Fork loop that Joe, Bruce and Bifrost did awhile back. Although I would like to return to see what the upper elevations of Deer Creek have to offer I think a backpacking trip would suit me better, I like to take my time and explore out there. Today at work I was day dreaming about the lush greenery, sweeping views and the cool refreshing smells that this trail had to offer! All in all this is such an awesome hike for being right off the highway and and yesterday I was the only one out there, nobody at the trail or TH!...

***Not done for the day, next stop the East Verde and Ellison Creek! :GB:
