| partners | | We got to the trailhead shortly after 8:30, and the main lot was already full, so we parked in the overflow lot. We were immediately greeted by the sound of running water, such a novelty for me to hear in the desert. Headed up Bluff Springs, and there was a good amount of ice on the trail in a lot of places. Plenty of people on the trails too, it took us a couple of miles to get past two groups who had started at the same time as us.
We were able to get across most of the creek crossings with dry feet by carefully making our way across the rocks, but one crossing on Dutchman appeared to have no easy way across. After spending a few minutes looking back and forth for options, we crossed barefoot. Just past that, we climbed over some rocks on the east side of the creek to spare ourselves two more quick crossings.
We ran into @bifrost and @slowandsteady at Charlebois, and chatted with them for a few minutes. Also had a quick lunch at the spring, then continued on our way. There was less ice on Dutchman between Charlebois and the north end of Peralta, then the ice picked back up again on Peralta. By then, the trail was shaded, so it was rather cool. We only saw three people south of Fremont Saddle, and finished up the hike after sunset, using headlamps for the last mile or so. Very enjoyable day, and it was nice to be treated to the sound of water for nearly the entire way. |
