Started at the overflow parking lot at Tortilla Flat. It is important to follow the "official route" track as I veered off route on the chimney stack ridge and up a saddle which resulted in a thrilling descent back to the route. When I descended from the main saddle, I had some route finding difficulty as I had printed a route description different from the gpx route I put on my GPS. At the bottom of the saddle there are two possible routes - the easiest is keeping left. I took the road less traveled to the right and was able to make it up, but it was more difficult than the cairned route that hugs the left fork. The descent was uneventful. Great hike and I plan to do the loop to Malapis Mountain at a later date.
