I started out of Peralta Trailhead in the dark. My little Honda was the only car in the lot. When I signed in at the trailhead, I saw a short list of visitors from Saturday. Ahhh, hiking in the summer. No crowds!

I made it up Cardiac Hill and turned off at the Cave Trail. My goal was not to go all the way up. I just wanted to get some pictures of the sunrise. I made it up to the first little saddle by the balancing rocks and waited.

The clouds looked promising, but the low clouds to the east kept the sun down and there was no spectacular light show before the sunrise. But, the warm light and awesome views are always nice in the Superstitions.

I explored the area off trail a little, looking for some interesting views. After the sunrise was over, I decided to head back down and get to the ever-expanding Honey-Do list my wife has constructed. I was able to take some nice pictures and was ok with cutting it short as it was probably already 95 degrees at 7am.

As I came around the first little corner of the Bluff Springs Trail, right at the top of Cardiac Hill, and I saw a huge Longhorn Ram just standing there. I had my wide angle lens in and I really wish I had the telephoto. I took a few quick shots and then slowly tried to raise up the iPhone for some video. But, he had seen enough of me and took off. I have never seen a Longhorn this close to the trailhead. What a treat!

Not a marathon hike, probably less than 3 miles total, but I got in some nice cardio going up the hill, got in some nice shots and got to see an amazing animal - win, win, win!
