| no partners | | I’m always overwhelmed with checking out a new area to shed hunt hike as there are so many factors and variables that go into play to determine a plausible “good” area from weather, herd behavior, human activity, etc...
But there’s no way to really know other than to just dive right in and put some boots to the dirt and plug out some miles.
This was one of those days where the grinding paid off and we encountered the “Bone Zone” in a mostly burnt forest area which a lot of these elk favor for the new feed growth.
Up on the ridges the red flag wind warning was the real deal with constant 15-25mph breezes and occasional 40mph gusts as projected seemed to be spot on accurate.
As I had to carefully park my truck earlier in the day as those burnt ponderosas were flexing more than a juiced up bodybuilder at Venice Beach.
A blessed and great day of solitude in a area that seems to has had little to no human travel around for awhile and a spot I’ll certainly return to. |
