Route Scout GPS Route Recorded on Route Scout View
By sheer coincidence, it's been exactly 3 years since I last took my kids on this hike. We got started a little before 9:30 and headed down Point Trail. Steep, slippery, dusty, etc. Nobody fell, so that was good. Don't wear light colored clothes on this one, because the dirt along here is like ash, and you will be a mess in no time. Took a break when we reached the creek, then headed upstream to Sundance Canyon. We followed the path in places, other times it was easiest in the water, which most mostly between knee to hip deep on me when carefully looking for the shallowest places. Chest deep at times on the kids. The pool at the entrance to Sundance was deep, as always. I found a spot where it was only neck deep on me, so I waded across with the 8yr old on my back. Despite my telling him several times to hold my shoulders, he chose to wrap his arms tightly around my neck. That was fun. The 10yr old swam across no problem. Spent a few minutes looking around, then started heading back out. Saw one group of people heading in while we were climbing back out-friendly group of scouts from Vegas. We finished up just as it started sprinkling. Not much rain, just enough to mess up the dust on my vehicle. The road in off Hwy 260, 144- :next: 149- :next: 142- :next: 142E is in good shape (sedan friendly when dry) except for the last little bit of 142E.
