My brother and his kids started planning this section hike of the PCT back in late December, 2019. In mid-February, he called and invited me to come along. I eagerly accepted, and got permission for my favorite hiking buddy, Spencer, to join us. Early March, my kid sister asked, and was invited, too.
Then the pandemic hit. Long story short, my brother and his kids decided (for very valid reasons) they wouldn't hike. That left me, my son, and my kid sister. In the end, my brother and one of his sons decided to hike the first two miles with us, from Harts Pass to Brown Bear Campground. My sister-in-law drove around, carrying the packs, and met us there.
Boots on the trail about 10:15, Tuesday morning, the 11th of August. The first two miles, "slack-packing", was very nice.
Beautiful trail, incredible scenery, amazing views!
Between our three phones (forgot the camera), we had 142 pictures and videos. The hard part was deciding which ones to thin out!
The first six miles or so was following the ridgeline, seeing incredible views, and enjoying being on the PCT.
The last six miles or so was dropping down off the ridgeline, down to Brush Creek, which had water and campsites.
Being an Arizona native, I rarely get to see views like this and the pine forests. I was just blown away at how beautiful it was. |
