As a Christmas/Anniversary gift, my oldest daughter and her husband offered to go with me and my "Trail Angel Extraordinaire" on a couple of hikes. I chose AZT#7 Las Cienegas and AZT#8, Rincon Valley. This is the story of Day One.

My daughter drew the "short straw", and got to hike with me first. We left Mesa in the wee hours of the morning, and shortly before 8:30, arrived at the access road (N 31.90845, W 110.661762) that leads to the start of this segment. Boots on the road soon after. We walked right past the trail crossing, and would have missed it altogether, but for Route Scout shouting at me! Thanks, Joe! (ATA? A sign would be nice there.)

It's a really nice trail, well marked, well-maintained, and easy to follow.

My wife and son-in-law drove back to the E Sahuarita Road crossing, and hiked in 3.3 miles to meet us. YIKES! All told, they hiked 6.7 miles, round trip.

At the Sahuarita Road crossing, my daughter and son-in-law switched, and he continued hiking with me.

Again, great trail, easy to follow, no problems.

My daughter and wife drove to the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead, and hiked back 1.5 miles to meet us. They met us at the I-10 underpass, and we all hiked to the trailhead together, arriving at 2:38. Round trip for them was 3.1 miles.

Met lots of bikers and hikers.

Another great day on the Arizona Trail!
