Slept the sleep of the dead. I was so tired I forgot to get out my headlamp. Guess who was stumbling around in the pitch black in the middle of the night?!
Boots on the trail about 8:30, and a nice leisurely hike for the first few miles.
We crossed the Methow (met-how) River shortly after 10:00, and took a break in the shady pines near the babbling river. Very nice. Almost cold in the shade.
After the break, we started up the long climb to Methow Pass - a couple thousand feet, as I recall. It felt like 10,000! All the while, in and out of pines, crossing numerous creeks and streams. Very beautiful, indeed.
Finally, after topping out at Methow Pass, it was downhill to our campsite for the night - below Snowy Lakes - arriving about 4:30. I don't believe the campsite has a name, so I called it the "Snowy Lakes campsite".
The site is between two tall mountains, so nighttime came early. Another night of the sleep of the dead. At least this time, I remembered my headlamp! |
