There is a nice spur trail all the way up Old Turks Head and it never gets too steep. The summit was easy and the views nice. On the way down I noticed a spur trail made by mountain bikers so I took that farther east instead of using the Lost Goldmine trail. As I was hiking down toward the old road by Turks Head I heard some noise off to my left. A Big Horn Ram was milling around the saddle. I stopped and took several photos of the ram who has a collar on. I reconnected with Lost Goldmine trail and hiked a little father east to get some more miles in before heading back. The early morning has very windy but the winds calmed after a few hours. When I returned to the trailhead there was a line of about five vehicles waiting for a parking spot. A nice morning to be out on the trail. |
