I decided to hike in to La Barge Creek below Geronimo Head and see if I could locate the ruin mentioned in the book "West of Dawn". The hike in was nice. I started about 7:45 am and felt good. The gloomy clouds gave the burn area a strange feel. I passed a two hikers on Second Water trail beyond the Black Mesa trail junction and that was all on the way in. Someone pulled the bed springs out of the mine near the Indian Paint Mine and now they are out by the main shaft? I hiked across La Barge Creek and up to the cliff base of Geronimo Head. I danced around up there but saw no sign of any ruins. I could hear hikers and canines hiking down below as they were going up La Barge Creek. On the hike out I was feeling a little stiff but pressed on and made okay time. This is nice hiking weather as it wasn't cold at the start and didn't really warm up. |
