| no partners | | Stayed over in Chandler so decided to try another SOMO hike. Had never been to Desert Classic TH so parked there in a half full lot. About a mile from the trailhead ran into a heavy fog but it soon lifted. Had never taken Telegraph Pass Trail before, saw about a dozen others either going up or coming down, went by the chained off petroglyphs. In a short while ran into a road and the sign for National Trail. Clouds were lifted up enough to make for decent views to the North as I was heading East. After a short while came to a familiar portion of the National Trail, just past the Chinese Wall I turned down Corona de Loma, it’s a nice trail, not as steep as I anticipated, looks like a nice workout though to come up it. If I do this again would go CCW. Took a coffee break,in cold weather I carry a thermos with me, about halfway down Corona de Loma. On reaching the signpost at the bottom thought there should be a sign for Desert Classic Trail but there was not. Seemed like going right was correct so I did, a passing mountain biker confirmed I was on the correct trail. Not sure what happened after this, if I was on Desert Classic it seemed the trail was designed to follow a drunken sailor. In the end I took some use trails way too far south and ended up “hiking “ through some nice neighborhood mazes. That’s all I want to say about that . Returned to the trailhead in time to see some hang gliders launching. |
