Met @LindaAnn at the Telegraph Pass Trailhead, I heard her car go growling by before I saw her. She was aware from previous hikes that my bucket list included hiking a 5 star trail plus visiting Piedras Grandes so she devised a route to accomplish this. Glad she posts her trip logs quickly as I had no idea how to title this hike. It was breezy and cool at the sparsely filled parking lot as we headed up Telegraph Pass into a stiff headwind. Learned how I missed the turn for National on a previous hike. I was able to cruise along like a zombie , nice not worrying about the route, occasionally getting verbal and non verbal directions. Continuing up to Goat Hill the friendly banter made the distance go quickly, made sure to provide more raw material for the book she may write some day. I don’t think my pace gave her much of a leg workout but I bet her eye roll muscles are sore today. Going down Ranger the mildly hazy view of downtown slowly set as we approached the junction of Los Lomitas . Finally a chance to hike a 5 star trail :y: ,soon notable were some large paved areas , parking lots and picnic areas, devoid of any vehicles or people as they were gated. Going by the largest one learned about the exact spot where a young girl tragically put a 🐝 in her mouth :scared: . A bit further on suggested Linda adorn her hair with wildflowers but she wouldn’t let me pluck the lone poppy we came across, something about not being a loser hippie. I thought we had stumbled upon a new trail as the sign posts changed to Los Lomitas loop anyway we used it as we approached the picnic Ramadas, where we snuck in without paying the 25 cents fee. I lounged around imagining its old glory days, thanks @joebartels for gathering that awesome historical info. Linda went above to explore the rocks, saying something about trying to get rid of a buzzing in her head. I nearly dozed off while imagining the Sun Bonnets dancing by ,hey has anyone frequented those legal pot shops ? Thought I heard a mini rockslide but just Linda landing from above so we are off to start Kiwanis Trail. Nice trail , Linda pointed out the dams and petroglyph rock and a squirrel on the way up the large stone steps. Crossing the summit road and onto Telegraph Pass Trail to finish while waving to a chuckwalla on the way down by now the wind had become a nice cooling breeze . I’ll be giving Linda’s hiking guide service a five star review for this one :D
